Exmoor Wildlife

One of the main reasons why Exmoor was chosen as a National Park was the beauty and variety of its wild landscape including moorland, woodland, farmland, river valleys and of course its spectacular coastline with England's highest sea cliffs at over 800ft.

Each landscape provides many different habitats for a huge number of birds, animals, insects and plants. There are some 31 native mammals, over 243 species of bird, over 100 species of nesting birds and in excess of 1000 different flowers and grasses.

Exmoor National Park has the greatest concentration of red deer in England and the Exmoor pony is a unique species that is rarer than the Chinese panda.
